How To Chose Your Wedding Date

You got engaged! Congrats! Are you ready for the first two questions all your friends and family will ask? 1. How did he propose?   2. the next question will definitely be, “when is the wedding?”

While some couples already have definite dates in mind – some couples find it hard to decide on a day and time. Here are some of the things to be considered in picking your wedding date :

Ask yourselves how big you want your wedding to be. Knowing the size of your wedding would give you an inkling of how much preparation you need to do. The ideal stress-free wedding is having at least one year lead time in preparations.

Consider the season. What is the season that you are most comfortable in celebrating your wedding day? Have you always wanted a spring wedding? A summer wedding?

Pick a day of the week. If you want to make sure that everyone is available on your wedding day, you can have it on a Saturday. Or if you are working on a budget, you can have it on a Sunday or a weekday.

Know the dates to avoid. You want to make sure your guests have the luxury of time in attending your wedding, so be careful not to pick a wedding date on the following:

New Year’s and Christmas season. Anywhere between December 23rd until January 5th is not a good time.

Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend. Since it’s a scheduled long weekend, most people have other plans for these dates.

Make an initial list of option dates. Based on your earlier considerations, list at least five options of dates to select from, and rank them according to priority.

List down and call the key participants to your wedding. Start calling everyone who matters and check their availability. Your parents, siblings, grandparents, favorite aunts and uncles, best friends. If you have some wedding vendors in mind, like your favorite photographer or musicians, you can include them in the list, too. Just by calling everyone and checking if they’re available on those dates you selected, you will be able to tick off some from the list and narrow down your options.

Take another week and gather possible incidents or occurrences about your chosen dates. Read or listen to the news for any possible event on the dates that you want. I have friends who started planning a year prior to the wedding, not realizing that they picked a wedding date in time for the local elections. Check the date of the Super Bowl game,a s well as The World Series. Keeping your ears open might really save you some troubles in the future. After doing so, you can go further in your elimination process and come up with your own perfect wedding date.

And there you go – now you can start telling everyone to get ready, as you are finally all set to tie the knot!
