Making a Bridal Shower Towel Cake

If you’re due to head to a bridal shower and aren’t sure what gift to get, why not try making up a towel cake?

For those not in the know, it’s a ‘cake’ made from rolled up towels that can actually look pretty spectacular, so can be a really great way of presenting your gifts.

Things you’ll need for your bridal shower towel cake:

• 2 x bath towels
• 2 x hand towels
• 2 x wash cloths
• Safety pins

Method for making your towel cake:

1. Fold your hand towels in half twice, lengthwise. Place them end to end and safety pin in place, so that you have one long length of towel (make sure your folded edges are on the same side before you pin these in place).
2. Start rolling up your folded towels until you have a coil that will form one of your ‘cake’ tiers. Tie a length of ribbon around its circumference to hold it in place and add a decorative touch and put aside.
3. Repeat this with the two washcloths and then bath towels, so that you have your three tiers of varied widths. You should aim to make all three tiers roughly the same height for a neat finish, so when folding your bath towels lengthwise, keep folding until they’re roughly 15cm wide.
4. Stack your towel tiers on top of each other, widest to smallest. You may want to place them on a tray if you’re going to need to carry and position the finished cake. Wrapping ribbon around all three tiers will help to keep them stable.
5. Next, it’s time to decorate your cake! Use your imagination, you can keep it simple or go crazy with your decorations. Whatever your other bridal shower gift ideas, perhaps cosmetics or items of homeware, any small items will look great tucked into your towel cake.

• Do take the time to fold your towels neatly, if you rush it you’ll end up with a messy and potentially unstable cake.
• Remember to pay attention to the edges of your folded towels – make sure the neater folded sides face upwards for a neat finish.
